UTP (a new beginning)

After attending Petronas Award Ceremony at May, we (local Petronas scholars) have been registered for Minggu aluan siswa (MAS) week at University Teknologi Petronas.

In this week, we were been exposed on the environment of the University such as the Chancellor complex , Masjid UTP, Pocket C and Pocket D.

UTP Hostels

Hostels are given to the students according to availability. There are 6 villages exist in UTP and the best (or have the highest price) is V3 and V4. But for Petronas scholars have been placed at V2B only for July intake to ease the accommodation process.

The distance between the hostels to the academic buildings, mosque and ATM are overall acceptable depending on which village you live in. As for V2, it is 10 minutes on walking to Chancellor complex and mosque. I know it have a very long time to get there but foundation students are not allowed to bring their own transportation (car or motorcycle) except for bicycle. Some rumors said that it is to ease the parking space for the seniors.

UTP is not very large for my opinion. If you jog surround the campus, it is only among 5 to 6 kilometer.

The Internet

For the wifi connection, it is very acceptable depend on which part of the campus you're going. Students are provided an amount of 22.5 gb of wifi internet data a month (for free) and some hostels have LAN port which is so useful as it has no data limits. The data limit only apply on wifi. LAN ports are also provided at the UTP Information Research Center (IRC) or the library, at some hostels (except SIBC and V6). The download speed of the LAN is almost 1.2 mbs and it is very suitable to download large files, playing online games and steaming some high quality videos or movies. But for some cases, students will be inform if there is some technical problem regarding the UTP Internet via E-mail. The picture is if student want to buy custom amount of internet data but it is can only be applied in UTP campus only.

UTP Residential Service

The facilities, such as restrooms, pantry and refrigerators are provided in some village. If there is some problem regarding your village such as your doorknob is broken, toilets are clogging and LAN port cannot be detected, you should call or notify them via e-mail so they will know your problems. For weekdays , the service will be done I can say fast enough.
